Dining Destinations Around the Metro

February 5, 2017

It seems like you'll never run out of places to eat in Metro Manila these days. From casual dining to formal ones, there also exist different themed cafes and diners. Name it and you'll surely have it.

I gained more than necessary weight last year and though I'm not fond of having new year's resolution, I vowed to watch what I eat and try to live healthier than I usually do. Guess what? These dining destinations are the primary cause why until now, I am still failing to fulfill the very same vow. Though I am not proud of that, I don't regret it either.

Without further ado, let's get down to listing the dining destinations I've got to visit for the past weeks.

1. Kitchitora Tokyo

Chintan Ramen
Paitan Ramen Zenbu no Se
My boyfriend, Francis, is working in a Japanese company. Just like me, he is an engineer as well and a new member of the corporate world. Guess where he brought me on his first salary? No, not in Japan. Haha (laughing at my own joke). He brought me in a Japanese restaurant - Kichitora Tokyo.

As some of you noticed, I am not fond of Japanese food. Raw foods aren't very appealing to me though I might give them a try in the future. However, authentic ramen is a different story.

To be honest, I spent so much time deciding what ramen to order. I had a ramen before which I regret eating and I don't want to suffer the same fate again. That's why I was very careful studying the menu, avoiding what seems like bitter in taste and such. I guess I succeeded. I had their Chintan Ramen which is so good! You will choose whether you like it to be a salt or soy sauce-based clear soup ramen topped with your choice of chicken or pork chashu, bamboo shoots, green vegetables and spring onions. The noodles itself is so flavorful that adding soup to it made it close to perfection.

Francis, unlike me, took only three seconds to decide what to eat. The man researched about the best seller beforehand. Good job, man. He had Kichitora's Paitan Ramen Zenbu no Se. This ramen is topped with piece of pork or chicken chashu, dried seaweed, molten lava egg, and given a dash of flavorful fried garlic oil. Paitan Ramen Zenbu no Se doesn't look as good and as colorful as Chintan Ramen but once you have a taste of it, you'll surely get why it is their best seller.

2. Buffalo Bros Ribs and Wings

I love chicken. I mean, who doesn't? I love chicken wings. I mean, who doesn't? Haha (laughing at my own joke again, if you can call that a joke). Craving for some buffalo wings, I, with my food buddy Francis, went to Maginhawa St. in QC to spoil our taste buds. Setting our feet in Buffalo Bros Ribs and Wings, we had their Date Night offering.

Included in the platter are six pieces buffalo wings that comes in two flavors, the ribs, two side dishes and two cups of rice. You will be given four choices of flavor for your buffalo wings. Along with our garlic parmesan and spicy chicken, they also offer ketchup-based and a flavor I already forgot. The chicken isn't the best if I have to compare it with what I have tasted before but it is fine all the same. The ribs are sumptuous though I don't like eating it with rice because it's kind of sweet. The platter is good for two to three persons.

Location: 45B Maginhawa St., UP Village, Diliman, Quezon City

3. Hippie Tipi

For those who love dining at cozy reataurants where you'll have a space of your own, I highly recommend dining at Hippie Tipi in Lilac St. in Marikina. As its name suggests, you'll have a personal space to munch your food in their hippie tipi!

They offer a wide array of foods that includes pizza, pasta, mozzarella sticks and such. My personal favorites are the cheesy beef pizza and lasagna. Every ingredient and spices used mixed up very well and in harmony. The beef was perfectly cooked so that it can be very best to tandem with the cheese. Not too strong cheesy taste, not too dull as well. Love at first bite, it was! The lasagna was good and it differs greatly with the usual lasagna we always have in mall-located food chains. They had it perfectly balanced.

4. Manila Wings

Chili Cheese Fries
Another food destination located in Lilac St. in Marikina is Manila Wings. Manila Wings serves Filipino food in their movie-themed diner. The good thing about Manila Wings is that they exactly know what array of foods Filipinos like best. For instance, their buffalo wings are made just how I think Filipinos will love - crispy, flavorful and spicy. This is one of the best buffalo wings I had, I must say. In addition to the chicken, we also had chili cheese fries. This is a creative and a whole lot different way of serving french fries and I just love it from the plating, presentation, down to the taste itself. Two thumbs up, Manila Wings!

5. Don Henrico's

Some of you may know Don Henrico's already because I think they have numerous branches around the metro. If you are looking for typical pasta dishes and pizza flavors, Don Henrico's is definitely one of the choices. They may not offer extraordinary pasta and pizza that may distinguish them from the others, I think some of their strengths are the pizza is cheesier and that they have huge serving.

If I would choose where to go back to dine, I would definitely go to Kichitora Tokyo and Hippie Tipi. The reasons behind are simple. First is that the foods they serve are delicious and distinguishable from others. Secondly, the place where we consumed our food was comfortable.

And for the verdict...
Kichitora Tokyo
Food: 5/5
Place: 5/5
Price: 5/5

Buffalo Bros Ribs and Wings
Food: 3/5
Place: 3/5
Price: 4/5

Hippie Tipi

Manila Wings
Food: 4/5
Place: 4/5

How the diners are rated:
Food. Taste and presentation.
Place. Accessibility and coziness.
Price. Value and affordability.

Have you eaten to any of these restaurants? How was it? If not yet, which of these looks appealing to you? Let me know!

Always,
Xeph.

    1. Is that a bad thing or a good one? 'Cause I don't want to make a very good writer cry. :) I think Kichitora Tokyo has also a branch in Glorietta. That gives you two choices so you better go as soon as you can! I would love to hear how you find it.

You mean, you only know a few Filipina in the blogging community? That's completely opposite for me. Last year, I met our co-bloggers twice. Hihi. Thank you, Jillian!
